Last month, we explored how many letters fit on a custom-made stamp. We discussed ways to manipulate text—adjusting gaps, reducing spacing, or even squashing letters sideways. However, we didn’t provide an exact character count for a stamp’s dimensions.
That’s why we’re back with Part 2. This time, we’ll delve into stamp model sizes and demonstrate how font types and sizes impact how much text fits on a stamp.
These two variables determine whether your text fits neatly within a stamp’s boundaries. Since stamp body dimensions are fixed, adjusting these elements can make all the difference.
Each stamp body has a baseplate size. We account for 0.6mm of beveling on each side of the rubber engraving. This means the engraving area is slightly smaller than the baseplate dimensions to prevent issues like heat distortion during the engraving process. For example, a 26x9mm stamp has an engraving area of 24.8×7.8mm.
View Font Length Comparisons for Name Stamps
This chart compares how different fonts influence text length. At 9-point size, Arial Narrow is the shortest at 7.4mm, while Courier is 41% longer at 10.4mm. Font selection plays a significant role in text fitting.
View a Common Name Stamp Model
One of our most popular name stamp sizes is 26x9mm, often used by nursing teams, midwives, optometrists, and doctors. Typically, these stamps feature two rows:
For short names, there’s plenty of space to use a larger font. However, longer names or additional details can be challenging. In these cases, we may need to adjust by:
See Font Size Adjustments
For example, reducing the font size from 9-point to 7.6-point may allow longer text to fit. Sometimes, a combination of smaller fonts and narrow types is necessary to achieve the perfect fit.
These rubber stamps are not just for names. Any words can be used to give a message on paper. Common models for this size are the Trodat 4910 available in many body colour choices.
The Shiny S841 and the Colop Printer 10 are a millimetre taller and handy for three rows of text. The Colop Printer 10 is also 1mm wider gives a squeak more width for those cases where a letter or two more are needed.

Stamps with a 38mm width are commonly used in legal practices for solicitor name stamps or general office use. They can accommodate:
Popular models include the Trodat 4911, Shiny S842, and Colop Printer 20, which are all identical in size and offer various colour options.
