Case Study Custom Made Chemist Dispensary Stamp
Learn how to order a Chemist Dispensary Stamp. From time to time, alongside our regular custom stamp orders, we receive a request for a chemist or pharmacy stamp that needs to do something very specific.
These requests are often driven by the need to save time, reduce costs, and improve efficiency within daily dispensary operations. This case study is a great example of how a well-designed pharmacy dispensary stamp can achieve all three.

Self-Inking Stamps Ltd manufactures custom chemist stamps and pharmacy stamps every day. From Bluff in the south to Kaitaia in the north, we ship self-inking stamps daily from Baylys Beach. Every pharmacy operates slightly differently, and dispensary workflows vary, which is why custom dispensary stamp designs are so important.

Chemist Dispensary Stamp
We offer a dedicated chemist dispensary stamp on our website. Within this product, there are four of the most requested layouts, featuring one to four check boxes, along with areas for the registered pharmacy business name and address.
Important note: Always check that your registered business name and address are correct. These details must be used on all pharmacy dispensary stamps. Auditors will check these stamps, and when we confirmed requirements with auditors, the registered name and address were identified as mandatory for audit compliance.
Chemist Dispensary Stamp – The Challenge
One of our pharmacy clients, who uses multiple stamps within their dispensary, asked whether two existing pharmacy stamps could be combined into a single multi-purpose dispensary stamp.
The goal was to streamline their dispensary process by:
- Reducing the number of stamps used per task
- Saving time by stamping once instead of twice
- Using less space on dispensary paperwork
- Reducing costs by purchasing only one stamp for a new pharmacy branch
Combining stamps also meant their existing stamps could be repurposed for other dispensary or administrative tasks rather than being discarded. We actively encourage repurposing stamps wherever possible and are always happy to help redesign them for new uses.
Chemist Dispensary Stamp – The Design Process
All information from both existing chemist dispensary stamps needed to be included in the new design. The original stamp already contained a significant amount of detail, including a date, and used small but readable font sizes. Reducing the text further would have affected clarity, so a larger date stamp model was required.
This was easily accommodated, as we stock a wide range of professional pharmacy date stamps. The design process involves balancing:
- The amount of dispensary information required
- Font size and readability
- Available stamp sizes
- Practical layout for daily pharmacy use

Once a suitable stamp model was identified, we created a scaled design and supplied it to the client as a PDF proof. When printed at 100%, this proof shows the exact size of the stamp impression, allowing pharmacy staff to test writing within the available spaces and visualise how the stamp will function in real dispensary conditions.
Feedback at this stage is important. Fine adjustments are sometimes required, and reviewing the proof often prompts additional ideas or requirements. It also allows other pharmacy team members to be involved in the approval process.
Designing Around a Pharmacy Date Stamp
A key consideration when designing pharmacy date stamps is the position of the date. On all date stamps, the date is fixed in the centre. This position cannot be altered due to the way date stamps are manufactured and the clearance required for rotating date bands.
This central date area strongly influences the overall dispensary stamp design. High-use professional Trodat date stamps provide usable space above and below the date, with smaller areas to the left and right. Larger stamp models offer increased flexibility, making it easier to include text, tick boxes, and writable areas while maintaining durability for busy pharmacy environments.
