Have you noticed how strongly Christmas is marketed for northern hemisphere winter time. Here in Aotearoa New Zealand we don’t have snow at Christmas time. It is beautiful summer weather. Why can’t we have Aotearoa New Zealand decorations at Christmas. There is no reason why not other than someone creating them and making them available.
We wanted locally made good sized ornaments. That lead to the creation of this design. Many design trials later, and fails, all those fine details were able to be reproduced for this decoration.
This is Christmas Season. At this time of year we have our beautiful Pohutukawa trees with their lively red flowers blossoming. Our national icon bird the kiwi are fossicking under ferns all year round, at night of course like Santa. And well you can’t go past the silver fern now can you. All part of the New Zealand Christmas holiday season.
